The University of Oxford
The
University of Oxford (known informally Oxford University, or just Oxford) has a reputation for academic excellence and vies with
Cambridge as Britain's foremost university.
Oxford University is older than Cambridge (the latter having been founded by Oxford students who had fled to Cambridge to escape the wrath of Oxford townsmen in 1209) and is in fact is the second oldest university in the world and the oldest in the English-speaking world.
The harmonious architecture of the university's buildings has earned Oxford the name "city of dreaming spires".
Oxford University in fact has two universities, the lesser-known one being Oxford Brookes University.
